National survey in 1999 We've sent 190 survey forms to different environmental and nature protection NGO's, natural history museums and ornithologists. We received reply from 17 people (8,9% of the total number of ditributed forms). The 27 colonies had 1596 used nest holes. Four people reported the lack of sand martin colonies in the Olt, Berettyo and Crasna Rivers, Cugir area and the surroundings of the Daia Română and Baz fish ponds. We welcome any further infromation regarding sand martin colonies! Colonies on the Mures River The Mures River is the only one among Romanian rivers where the survey of the sand martin colonies was carried out during a longer time interval. The results were published in several scientific publications: Antal,

Colonies on the Somes River (2000) The lower section of the river was surveyed between 25-26 August, using a canoe, on a 74 km stretch, between Erdőszáda/Ardusat bridge and Szatmárnémeti/Satu Mare. The survey was assisted by Szodoray-Parádi Farkas. The distribution of the colonies is illustrated on a map. |

Colonies on the Somes River (2004) A 230 km long section of the river was surveyed between 20 and 25 August. The survey was carried out again using a canoe, helped by Vinkler Tivadar. We found 62 colonies with 8031 nest used nest holes. Map with the distribution of the colonies.
